Do You Need Core Retraining?
Back Pain - Video Series • 7m 34s
Not everybody needs core retraining! Sometimes when we fix alignment issues in the body the deep supporting system, the "core", begins to function again as it should. When this happens the person is able to control their own alignment again. When this happens we only provide "core retraining", such as Pilates exercises, only when someone needs to improve their endurance/strength to help them perform at the desired level and prevent further issue.
More frequently what we see is that the area that was struggling with its alignment no longer has any tight muscles pulling it "out" of alignment but the body no longer knows how to hold itself in an aligned position and maintain normal biomechanics (normal movement) for a task/s e.g. running.
Without retraining, these people will eventually tighten back up and their problems will return. This can be because they had issues for a while before they found the right help and their body thinks that the poor position is 'normal' and it has totally forgotten how to move properly and which muscles it should use for each task. Retraining allows us to teach these people how to control their alignment while they move, retrain the strategies they have for which muscles they use, and build up their strength and endurance to prevent further issues.
